This bag, in the form of a goldfish, is designed for holding incense.  Goldfish were originally imported into Japan from China in the Muromachi period (1336-1573).  This kind of unique silk crepe handiwork first started in the Edo period (1603-1868).

This artwork is a one-off.

Material: pure silk (modern Tango Chirimen, Japanese silk crepe)
